5 Whys of a Winter Tune

What do you do now, it’s mid December, it’s just too darn cold to ride. Your bike is feeling lonely out in the garage… Hey, if it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them.  Bring them inside. No, I am not talking about your pet turtle. I am referring to your trusty steed, your velocipede, your two wheeler. It’s time for a Winter Tune up.
Why!?! You might ask, would I take my bike anywhere in this cold. Well, let’s line it out for you. It truly is a great idea to get your bike serviced before its long winter’s nap.
  1. The old lubes and greases that keep it running smoothly will actually dry out and lose their lubricating properties from the cold. Brand new lube does not have this tendency and will keep your ride ready for that first balmy day of spring, or hey it’s Colorado, you might be able to sneak a ride in sometime in January.
  2. Dirt and Grime are your bike’s worst enemies.  Why store it away dirty.  Clean it up!  Get those nasty rust encouraging particles away from those expensive components.
  3. Your bike could use the love. You rode it hard all summer long, and in this late fall warm weather you did not give it a rest. It deserves a nice Thank you clean and lube.
  4. Tune up are on Sale right now at Spokes. Reg. Tune is only $40. Wow, what a deal!
  5. The cables that run so nicely across the top tube of your ride. Yes those steel cables that you have been dripping sweat on all summer. They need lube as well, before the sticky concoction of your own design for rehydrating and keeping your own muscles moving, completely solidifies and makes it nearly impossible to shift or stop the bike in the spring.
Well, hopefully those are reasons enough.
But most importantly, a well cared for bike is a long lasting and reliable friend. So bring them in and we will give your friend the much needed care it deserves.
